February 2009: We’re busy little bees around the Farcountry office, working hard on spring and summer titles we’re really proud of. Before you peruse our new releases, check out the winner of our inaugural caption contest, read the latest in Robert Rath’s strip “Draw with Rob”, meet photographer Tim Cady, and more!

The Winning Caption

Congratulations! Carl Wichman, of Fargo, North Dakota, we’ll be sending you a copy of the book of your choice from FarcountryPress.com.

Want to Win a Free Book?
Yep, we’re at it again! Email us a (fun, irreverent) caption for this photo of three mountain goat kids having a tussle. This image by Sumio Harada appears in Mountain Goats of Glacier National Park.

If we pick your caption, we’ll send you the book of your choice from our online catalog at FarcountryPress.com—as well as feature your caption in our March e-newsletter.

Featured Photographer

Tim Cady, photographer for Northern Idaho Impressions, shares an anecdote from a favorite shot in the book, which features a cow moose and calf:

“I was exploring a wetland at the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge when I discovered a cow moose giving birth. I found myself in a conundrum: Do I slink out of sight and sprint to the vehicle to grab my gear, possibly missing this once-in-a-lifetime event, or do I stay and watch, losing the shot but ensuring I experience this remarkable event? I stuck around, maintaining a respectful distance. When junior slipped out, I slipped away, sprinted for the gear, and returned to capture images of the calf’s first steps.”
