Looney Toones
World War II Drawings 1941-1945, Interpretive Wood Cuts 2000-2016

When Jim created his pencil drawings, he was learning to read; asking what, why, how; learning to separate fantasy from reality; beginning to understand the causes of events; wanting to make things right and balanced; resolving conflicts and learning to cope with challenges beyond solving. These are some of the markers of all five-to-eight year olds. WWII, comics, brothers, bullies, a boxer father and a scrappy neighborhood all made his childhood unique. Jim's seminal art making portended the long and important artistic journey of an urbane, politically engaged artist who points often to the intersection of visual art and social history.
