Wind River Range Impressions
photography by Fred Pflughoft and others
- The Wind River Range encompasses the jagged crest of the Continental Divide and averages about 25 miles in width. These mountains pass through one of the largest roadlesss tracts of land in the lower forty-eight states. Four huge wilderness areas have been set aside to protect this range, and they effectively limit access by all but the hardy and adventurous.
Fred Pflughoft, who lives at the foot of this storied and magical range, captures the essence of this ruggedly grand place: from the immense glacier-caved lakes framed by rock-strewn morainal ridges to the towering castles of fault-block stone covered with snow and ice, from remote alpine lakes to Technicolor, flower-carpeted meadows.
