Ellen Baumler, PhD (1949–2023), served as interpretive historian at the Montana Historical Society from 1992 to 2018, developed Montana’s National Register Sign Program, and authored dozens of books and articles on Montana history.
Christine Brown has been an interpretive historian at the Montana Historical Society since 2019. From 2005 to 2019 she was Outreach and Education director at the nonprofit Preserve Montana. She is the co-author, with Chere Jiusto, of Hand Raised: The Barns of Montana (2011).

Martha Kohl has worked at the Montana Historical Society since 1995, most recently as Outreach and Education program manager. She has written dozens of lesson plans, National Register sign texts, and articles, and is the author of two books.

Kirby Lambert worked for almost thirty-seven years at the Montana Historical Society where he served in a variety of capacities—as museum registrar, curator, and Outreach and Interpretation program manager. He is a coauthor of several books and a regular contributor to Montana.

Tom Ferris worked as the archival photographer at the Montana Historical Society from 1995 to 2024 while also operating a professional photography studio. His photographs have appeared in numerous magazines and books, and his work is in many private collections in the United States and overseas.
