MONTANA PROFESSOR AND WIDOWER SHARES WISDOM
ON FINDING LOVE IN LATER YEARS

You know an author is tackling a sensitive subject when he writes under a nom du plume.

Sean O'Brian, a Montana professor who lost his wife of 46 years to a sudden illness, takes on the subject of dating and relationships—for the Baby Boomer generation and beyond—in his book Second Chance: Life and Love for All Seasons.

The project started out as a journal—tool for processing the grief he experienced after the loss of his wife.

With the help of family, friends, and physical activity, he navigated his way through his sadness—and found love and companionship in the process. Along the way, he learned valuable lessons about himself and about relationships.

O'Brian is remarkably candid about his experiences in the dating world at age 70. We're talking everything from first kisses to erectile dysfunction.

"Some of the personal issues were hard to talk about," he says, "and I wanted to protect the identities of the women with whom I was in relationships."

He says that a few of the book's topics might make his family uncomfortable. "But they don't have to read those parts," he says with a wink.

O'Brian has written several other books on physiology and human performance. He has been very involved in research on sports medicine and exercise science.

O'Brian ultimately found love and married for a second time. As he continued to write, he realized he had something of a self-help book on his hands.

"I hope it can serve as something of a roadmap for others who seek meaningful relationships later in life," he says.

O'Brian addresses coping strategies after the loss of a loved one, strategies for seeking a partner, romance and intimacy, financial issues, prenuptial agreements and marriage, and blended families.

The book, he says, isn't just for men. "In many ways, the book is a tribute to the women I met, who were kind, patient, and remarkable."

Second Chance is available at local bookstores and gift shops, through online retailers, or from distributor Farcountry Press at 1.800.821.3874, www.farcountrypress.com.
