"Photographing on spring and summer days at small prairie water holes and ponds is always interesting. You never really know what might show up. At one such pond, I had never before seen a male northern Harrier (marsh hawk). Quite a beautiful bird, the male dropped in for a quick bath and left immediately after drying off. Since that day, I've made several visits to the same pond and haven't seen another."

"Bighorn rams spend most of the year in bachelor groups away from the ewes and lambs. Long before the classic head-banging clashes of the rut, which usually occur between strangers on the breeding grounds in November, a dominance hierarchy or pecking order is established among rams in a group. The dominant ram in this bunch is walking aggressively and displaying his horns to the others to make sure they remember who's the boss."
